Party marks East Tilbury library's re-opening

20 August 2019

Celebrate East Tilbury Hub and library at a special space-themed launch party and family day later this month.

On Saturday 31 August, children and adults can join library staff and the Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Terry Piccolo, at the newly-refurbished hub, library and Bata Heritage Centre from 10am to 3pm. This event marks the library's re-opening, which took place earlier this year on Tuesday 23 April.

Plenty of light refreshments and family activities, including a space story and rhyme time, will be on offer on the day. Children are even invited to go along dressed as their favourite science fiction character or an alien!

Cllr Deborah Huelin, Cabinet member for communities, and the Mayor of Thurrock will deliver opening speeches at 11am. Cllr Huelin said: "I'm delighted to be able to attend the official launch of the new East Tilbury Hub and library. This has been a long time coming after a car fire 2 years ago left the library needing extensive repairs due to fire damage.

"Libraries and hubs are a fantastic asset to the community. They enable people of all ages to learn vital new skills, provide local volunteering opportunities through sharing expertise, offer health and wellbeing benefits, and aid literacy and learning. There will also be a chance to speak to staff about accessing online library resources, including BorrowBox and PressReader, on smartphones and tablets.

"Pop along and discover what this library can do for you. Why not take the opportunity to inspire your children and tap into their sense of adventure by signing them up to this year's Summer Reading Challenge, Space Chase? This free challenge finishes on Saturday 14 September."
