Strict enforcement action taken to prevent lorries from parking illegally in Thurrock Parkway has seen the road named as one of the top 10 roads outside London where inconsiderate drivers are likely to get a fine.
Last year Thurrock Council issued 1,693 notices and took £89,492 in fines on Thurrock Parkway alone as the council took decisive action to deter drivers from parking in the road. It means the road has the fifth highest level of fines for nuisance parkers outside London.
Cllr Ben Maney, Cabinet member for highways, said: "Residents and the council know just how big an issue nuisance lorry parking is and being named in the top ten for fines issued shows just how seriously we take this issue.
"Our civil enforcement officers regularly visit Thurrock Parkway and other nuisance parking hot-spots and we will always take action to make sure that drivers, and the firms they work for, get the message that we will not tolerate them using our roads as a car park."
Thurrock Parkway was named in the top 10 in reports in The Express, Daily Mail and The Sun newspapers.
