Getting a parking permit is easier than ever thanks to the launch of new online application forms.
Residents who live in a controlled parking zone can now complete their application on the web without having to visit Thurrock Council's Civic Offices.
All documents can be uploaded through the site, either by scanning them or simply taking a picture of them on a mobile phone.
Cllr Gary Collins, portfolio holder for central services, said: "The system is part of our digitally-focused customer services strategy and is not only simple to use but means that anyone applying for, or renewing, a parking permit can do so entirely from the comfort of their own home.
"The new system couldn’t be easier. All people need to do is fill in the online form, upload proof of residence and proof of vehicle ownership – which can be done by simply taking a picture on a smart phone – and then the permit will be sent to them through the post."
Shirley Dargan-Bloss is one of hundreds of local people to have already discovered for herself how easy the system is to use. She said: "I was delighted to complete my application for a parking permit online. It was a very easy process and after previously sitting and waiting in line at the Civic Offices, this renewal took me only 10 minutes."
