Thurrock Council's planning team has been highly commended for its partnership working at the Planning Awards 2019.
The council was a finalist in the Award for Partnership Working category at the ceremony in London in recognition of its shared service arrangement with Brentwood Borough Council.
The arrangement was described as: "a real example of local authority joint working, designed not just to make savings but to deliver improved services for local communities".
Particular recognition was given to the flexibility of the arrangement, which allows planners to work across both councils and meet recruitment challenges by developing staff from within.
Cllr Mark Coxshall, Thurrock Council's portfolio holder for regeneration and strategic planning, said: "We are very proud of this latest achievement, which is well-deserved recognition of everyone's hard work.
"The effective shared service arrangement with Brentwood Borough Council has been a key part of our continued success, giving us extra flexibility and enabling us to react quickly to any changes in demand."
