Celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Thameside Complex

A special celebratory event will take place on Saturday 22 January to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Thameside Complex.

A programme of events will be taking place throughout the day including:

  • a photographic exhibition
  • a story hunt for children
  • the launch of the Thameside Complex Living History Project
  • a free cinema screening of this year's panto, with¬†immersive special effects, light, sound and a few surprises to offer a memorable experience for audiences

Cllr Deborah Huelin, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: "I know many people have happy memories from the last half-century of the Thameside Complex, whether that is visiting the library or museum or attending a theatre performance or wedding ceremony. This will be a day to come together and celebrate that rich history.

"There are some fantastic events planned throughout the day with something for all the family including stories for children, the launch of an exciting project to document the amazing history of the complex and all the people that have used the building over the last five decades, as well as a unique chance to enjoy an immersive screening of the pantomime Cinderella, absolutely free of charge.

"I look forward to seeing as many people as possible there on the day and sharing happy memories with you."

Tickets for the free cinema screening of Cinderella are available to book at Booking is essential to avoid disappointment on the day. Arrival times will be confirmed with the ticket confirmation as arrival times for seating have been staggered to support current COVID measures.

The Thameside Complex and theatre will follow current COVID guidance, which requires masks to be worn unless exempt.
