Fun-goers enjoy a day out in Purfleet despite the rain

16 August 2019

Wet weather didn’t deter residents and visitors from coming to this year’s Purfleet Fun Day.

Children and adults joined in the fun at the free event on Wednesday 14 August at Centurion Way, Purfleet. There was face-painting, lunch bags and a tombola, as well as advice and information from Thurrock Council teams – including Trading Standards and the Community Safety Partnership – Essex Police and local community groups. The Parks Engagement team was on hand to encourage residents to get active and make the most of the borough's green spaces.

Visitors were also warned about the dangers of loan sharks who prey on vulnerable residents. Trading Standards officers, alongside Shakey the Shark, spoke about why it is important to borrow from legal lenders, how to identify loan sharks and how to report individuals.

Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Terry Piccolo – pictured below with Shakey – said: "Despite the weather, this year's fun day enabled families to get out, meet a range of agencies and enjoy what Purfleet has to offer.

"Many thanks to all the volunteers for their efforts on the day. I saw many happy faces and thoroughly enjoyed talking to and meeting all our local residents."

The event was put on by Thurrock Council's Resident Engagement team and Community Safety Partnership, in collaboration with Purfleet Children's Centre and Garrison Purfleet Residents Group.
