Celebration of social work in Thurrock

This week social workers in Thurrock have been joined by elected members, senior managers to mark and celebrate World Social Work Day (Tuesday 15 March) through a series of seminars and events.

Today (Thursday 17 March) social workers came together to launch Thurrock Social Work Academy with members, senior managers and guest speakers including:

  • Lyn Romeo – Chief Social Worker Adults
  • Jenny Cole CBE – Independent Chair/Scrutineer, Local Safeguarding Children Partnership
  • Fran Leddra – former Chief Social Worker Adults and former Principal Social Worker for Adults in Thurrock

Cllr Deb Huelin, Cabinet Member for Adults, said: "Thurrock Social Work Academy has been designed to promote the training and development offer to Social Workers at each stage of their careers in Childrens and Adult services in Thurrock.

"We pride ourselves on the practice our social workers deliver to children and adults across the borough."

Cllr Johnson, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: "It has been wonderful to mark the great work our social workers do across the borough this week and to tie in the launch of Thurrock Social Work Academy with World Social Work Day.

"Thank you to all of our social workers for your hard work and commitment supporting our residents every day."
