Traffic Regulation Order (TRO)

Temporary prohibition or restriction on roads

Whitehall Lane, Grays

1) The Borough Council of Thurrock is satisfied that it is necessary to restrict or prohibit traffic in the above road without delay because of the likelihood of danger to the public or serious damage to the road.

2) The Council, in exercise of its powers under Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers, has therefore made the following Notice:

  • prohibit any vehicles from travelling in both directions along Whitehall Lane from a point approximately 160m south of its junction with Palmers Avenue for a distance of approximately 63m in a south direction.
  • prohibit any vehicle from exiting Highview Avenue at its junction with Whitehall Lane

3) The purpose of the Notice is for reasons of safety due a void in the carriageway and for Thurrock Council to carry out urgent repairs.

4) The alternative route for northbound vehicles is Whitehall Lane southbound, East Thurrock Road, Bridge Road, Clarence Road, Stanley Road, Orsett Road eastbound, and Palmers Avenue and vice versa for southbound vehicles. The alternative route to exit Highview Avenue is to exit via Palmers Avenue. Access will be maintained for businesses and residents.

5) The Notice comes into force on immediately on Wednesday 20 March 2024 at 9am and will be valid for 21 days. However it is expected the works will be completed by Saturday 23 March 2024. It will apply only on those days and during those times when indicated on site by the presence of the appropriate traffic signs in accordance with The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.
