Support with the cost of living

Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund is money provided by the UK government's Department for Works and Pensions to help low-income households, including families, pensioners, unpaid carers, care leavers and disabled people struggling with the cost of energy, food and hygiene products.

The amount of Household Support Fund provided for Thurrock in 2023/24 is £2,590,082.

This will be used to:

  • provide free school meals during the 2023 Easter break and the 6-week school summer holiday
  • provide help for households in financial hardship through the Essential Living Fund

Households that receive certain benefits or are living on a low income can apply to the Essential Living Fund for money to help with food, clothes, utility bills, furniture and other items essential for living. Go to our Essential Living Fund pages for information on how to apply.
