Thurrock historical figures

Thurrock's first schoolboy international footballer

Tommy Mansfield won two caps playing for England in matches against Scotland and against Wales in the 1931-1932 season.

He was at that time a pupil at Arthur Street School Grays. He later also played for Grays Athletic and for Southend.

For much of his working life he was employed at Thames Board Mills in West Thurrock.

The widow of Tommy has kindly loaned a number of items which have been on display at various times in the museum; these include the two caps, his English Schools Football Association enamel badges, the embroidered badge from his EFSA shirt, photographs, programmes and cuttings.
