Coronavirus (COVID-19) – libraries

Belhus library, Corringham library and Grays library have reopened. Other libraries remain closed until further notice. You can access newspapers and magazines, get e-books and e-audio and take part in job club sessions online.

Go to our coronavirus (COVID-19) safety page for information on visiting re-opened libraries and items due for return. Items due between 1 January and 31 July have had their loan dates extended automatically to 1 September. Please do not put borrowed items in library book drops or letterboxes.

International Kids Lit Quiz

Kids Lit Quiz, the annual schools quiz for years 7 and 8 takes place every year in November. It celebrates the 'sport of reading’, where keen readers to show their expertise.

If your school is ready for the challenge then think about putting a team together and apply now for a chance of getting to the world final in 2019. To take part:

  • secondary schools in the eastern region can enter 1 or 2 teams
  • each secondary school team must have 4 students from years 7 and 8
  • primary schools may enter an "apprentice team" from year 6

You can test your knowledge and prepare to enter this year's quiz by looking at the sample questions on the Kids Lit Quiz website.

The East of England heat is hosted by Thurrock Libraries and run by the quiz’s founder, New Zealand Education lecturer, Wayne Mills.
