Get involved in planning

Overview

Good planning is about creating successful places that enable people to live healthier, more prosperous, and better-connected lives. It's also about supporting local businesses and making sure the things that make our places special are protected.

Planning decisions can range from being small in scale, like an extension to a home, or of national significance, like the expansion of a port.

Planning affects everyone who lives in, works in, or visits a place. This means it's important that local communities and stakeholders know about the planning process and how to get involved.

Statement of Community Involvement

Our Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) 2023 explains how local communities and other stakeholders can be involved in the:

  • preparation of planning documents
  • consideration of planning applications
  • enforcement of planning decisions

From 15 July 2022 to 5 September 2022, we consulted on the SCI and received comments. We considered the comments and, as a result, made changes to the SCI final version.

Details of the consultation and the comments received are in our statement of consultation. We also produced a community and equality impact assessment on the SCI and its consultation.
