Thurrock Adult Community College

Course costs and payments

Most of our courses are subsidised by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and many are free, depending on what you are studying and whether you're receiving certain government benefits.

Level 3 courses

'Level 3' is equivalent to an advanced technical certificate or diploma, or A-levels.

Any adult aged 19 and over, who does not already have a qualification at level 3 or higher, can access selected fully-funded level 3 courses. These are qualification courses that can help adults improve their job prospects. They include accounting, bookkeeping, childcare and early years, and counselling.

If you're aged 24 or older and studying at level 3, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to pay all the costs – fees and registration – for your course. You'll have to start repaying your loan when your income is above a certain level (the 'threshold' amount), otherwise or Student Finance England will 'write off' any outstanding balances once you complete a higher education course. For more details, go to GOV.UK: Advanced Learner Loan.

Cost reductions

You can find information on costs in the detail for each of our courses.

If you receive a government benefit, you may get a reduction in the cost of some courses. We call this 'fee remission'.

For information on fee remission and other financial support, go to the following pages of the Thurrock Adult Community College courses website:

Paying for your course

There are many ways you can choose to pay for your course. You can pay by:

  • debit card
  • credit card
  • sending a letter or purchase order from your employer or sponsor confirming they will pay if we invoice them for the course fee

If you're paying for a course of 16 weeks or longer, you can get a 10% discount from your tuition fees if you pay in full at the time of enrolment.

For information on what to do if you need to change your course booking, go to the Thurrock Adult Community College website page on cancellations, transfers and refunds.

Instalment plans

You can pay by instalments if your financial circumstances would otherwise prevent you from enrolling. Our Learner Services team can offer you advice and support, taking your individual circumstances into account.
