Early Years Oral Health

Early Years Oral Health

We deliver an Early Years Oral Health Service across Thurrock to help improve children’s oral health from birth to eight years old.

Tooth decay is one of the most common health issues affecting young children. Poor oral health can lead to pain, dental treatment in hospital, and can impact a child’s development, nutrition, and readiness for school.

We work to reduce these risks by supporting families, early years settings and schools with the knowledge, tools and resources needed to promote good oral health.

How we help

We provide a range of support across Thurrock, including:

  • Supervised toothbrushing programmes in early years settings and primary schools

  • Workshops for parents and carers delivered in our Family Hubs and community venues

  • Training for early years staff, including refresher sessions

  • Oral health resources and packs, including toothbrushes, toothpaste and guidance materials

  • Community outreach activity to raise awareness and promote good oral hygiene habits

  • Support for those with SEND, including dedicated resources for children and their families
