Health and well-being strategy

Health and well-being strategy 2022-2026

Thurrock's Health and Wellbeing Strategy sets priorities for reducing inequalities in health and well-being, and for improving the health and well-being of the people of Thurrock.

Our Health and Wellbeing Board creates and oversees the strategy. The board includes representatives of local organisations that provide services and support affecting the health and well-being of Thurrock residents.

Our current strategy is for the years 2022 to 2026. It was approved by Thurrock's Health and Wellbeing Board in June 2022.

How we refreshed the strategy

Since we published our previous strategy, for 2016 to 2021, there have been many changes to the way health services are organised and provided, both locally and nationally. For example, the Mid and South Essex Health and Care Partnership has been created, and work on integrated care systems has affected the way health services are planned and commissioned.

For our 2022-2026 strategy, we looked first at what currently affects the health and well-being of people in Thurrock. We focused on 6 areas of people's lives – which we call 'domains' – and set priorities for helping to improve health and well-being.

Our refreshed strategy will tackle the many causes of poor health in Thurrock. By making changes across the 6 'domains' – such as building strong, safe communities, focusing on person-led health and care, and making sure there are equal opportunities for all – we will make health care more open and fairer. We call this 'levelling the playing field'.

How residents had their say

We invited Thurrock residents and anyone else with an interest to have their say on our proposals for the refreshed Health and Wellbeing Strategy. Our consultation was open from October 2021 to December 2021.

You can read the full consultation report below. It includes feedback from residents, councillors, health professionals, care professionals and people from other organisations. It also shows how feedback was used in creating the final strategy.
