Beat the Street Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary comes to a successful close

The interactive Beat the Street Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary challenge has come to an end, with more than 2,415 local residents clocking up an impressive 9,172 miles of active travel together.

The free six-week game transformed the streets of Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary into a giant interactive playground, encouraging residents of all ages to walk, run, cycle, scoot and wheel between ‘Beat Boxes’ to earn points and prizes.

Players tapped special sensors placed around the area using a card or the Beat the Street app, travelling between boxes within an hour to score points while exploring their neighbourhood and getting more active.

Throughout the challenge, schools, community groups and families competed on leaderboard's for total and average points, with prizes awarded to those who travelled the furthest and took part most regularly.

Jay Sensi, teacher at Pioneer Primary School, who came third on the total points leaderboard, said: “We have been absolutely thrilled to see how Beat the Street has brought our pupils and their families together. The competitive spirit has really encouraged everyone to get out onto the streets, exploring new routes whether they are walking, cycling, or scooting. It’s been a fantastic way to get our entire school community active, healthy, and enjoying the game side-by-side, and we are delighted to be a part of it.”
