Carers enjoy a well-deserved break

13 June 2025

Carers had the chance to unwind, learn new skills and meet with other people going through similar experiences thanks to a special week of events hosted by Thurrock Carers Service.

Thurrock Carers Service provides information, advice and support for unpaid carers who support relatives, friends or neighbours who would find it difficult to manage without their help.

As part of Carers Week (Monday 9 June to Sunday 15 June), the service has hosted an array of entertaining events for carers of all ages.

The fun started on Monday 9 June at Grays Hub, Thurrock Community Hospital, where carers had the chance to channel their inner Picasso during a drawing skills class before trying their hand at cake decorating.

Activities continued into Tuesday 10 June with a picnic at Grays Town Park, giving the perfect opportunity for carers to connect with one another while enjoying the outdoors.

Two more fun events took place on Wednesday 11 June with a Bingo & Brunch, and a special bowling night arranged for Thurrock's Young Adult Carers.

On Thursday 12 June, carers got a well-deserved break with a calming mindfulness session and pamper afternoon, which included face masks and hand massages.

Friday 13 June was an opportunity for carers to take to the mic and belt out some of their favourite hits during a karaoke afternoon with some sweet treats and refreshments.

A Quiz Night Fundraiser is planned for later in the evening (7pm to 11pm) at Belhus Cricket Club, North Stifford to help raise awareness and vital funds for Thurrock Carers Service to continue supporting carers.

Support for carers

A carer is someone who cares for a family member, friend or neighbour because they are ill, frail, disabled or have mental ill-health or substance misuse problems.

If you are caring for someone who could not manage without your help, you are a carer and could be entitled to some additional help and support.

You can find out more about the support available and Thurrock Carers Service on the Thurrock Council website.
