Christmas message from the Leader

19 December 2025

Dear residents,

As 2025 draws to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas, and a happy and healthy new year, and thank you for your contribution to our borough this year.

Back in May, I was proud to take over from Cllr John Kent as Leader of Thurrock Council, and continue the important work to get Thurrock Council back on its feet so it can properly support you, the residents we are here to serve.

I’ve also been pleased to represent the council in our conversations with the Government and other councils in Essex on local government reorganisation and devolution, to make sure Thurrock’s voice is in the room and that your views are reflected in the proposals and plans we are putting forward.

Most of all, I’ve enjoyed getting out and about in the borough, meeting so many of you, and hearing your thoughts and views about the council and your hopes and ambitions for your families, and the place you live. The Ask the Council events we’ve held across the borough have all been different, but each has been really valuable in their own way. We’ve heard from people about a range of issues affecting their lives including anti-social behaviour, housing, violence against women, and the council’s finances just to name a few. Residents have been rightly challenging, but have also thanked us for getting out into their communities and showing that we care. We will continue to listen to you, and improve how we work with you in 2026.

Whilst many of us are rushing around finishing our Christmas shopping or visiting friends and family, I am fully aware that for some, this time of year can be difficult. It’s a particularly poignant time as we remember those who are no longer with us, and it is an expensive time too, when the additional costs of gifts and food can feel unmanageable for some. I want to end therefore by reminding you that Thurrock Cares. Our cost of living campaign makes it easy for anyone who is struggling to find the help they need, so please don’t struggle alone – make sure you seek out the help that is on offer.

With best wishes for the festive season,

Cllr Lynn Worrall

Leader of Thurrock Council
