Thurrock Council’s Waste Services Team took its Let’s get it sorted campaign to the Orsett Show on Saturday 5 September, helping residents find out more about recycling, cutting waste and taking pride in their local communities.
Throughout the day, the team spoke with residents and visitors about how they can reduce the amount of waste they produce, recycle more and make sure the right items go in the right bins.
Visitors to the council’s stand could pick up recycling bags and information leaflets and take part in interactive recycling-themed activities.
The activity formed part of the council’s Let’s get it sorted campaign, which encourages residents to make small changes at home that can help cut waste, improve recycling and keep Thurrock cleaner.
It also supported the council’s wider civic pride work, encouraging people to take greater pride in where they live and highlighting the important role residents and council staff can play together in looking after local communities.
Cllr Tom Kelly, Cabinet Member for Regeneration & Environment, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people speaking with our Waste Services Team and getting involved with Let’s get it sorted at the Orsett Show.
“Cutting waste and recycling more are simple ways we can all help look after Thurrock. Putting the right things in the right bins helps us recycle more and supports cleaner, greener communities.
“Civic pride is about all of us taking responsibility for the places where we live, work and spend our time, and events like this are a great opportunity to work directly with residents and show what we can achieve together.
“I would also like to thank our frontline colleagues who supported the event and who work hard every day to keep Thurrock clean and provide an important service for our communities.”
The Waste Services stand attracted a steady stream of visitors throughout the day, with activities designed to make recycling and waste reduction information accessible and engaging for people of all ages.
The event also gave residents the opportunity to learn more about the council’s work to reduce waste, improve recycling and support cleaner communities across Thurrock.
