How to dispose of your old PC safely and securely

11 February 2026

Buying a new computer and not sure how to dispose of your old machine? Maybe you have draws filled with old mobile phones and smart tablets?

Simply throwing out IT equipment into the rubbish adds to landfill and may expose your personal data to criminal gangs.

We have the solution. Bring your unwanted computers, tablets, mobiles, and other tech to Grays Library on Saturday 21 February and donate it to Every Child Online.

This great local charity will, free of charge, professionally and securely erase your device using certified data-destruction processes, ensuring all personal information and data are permanently removed.

It will then either recycle the machine responsibly or rebuild, repurpose, and provide it to a local youngster without a computer. It will never be sold for profit.

Digital exclusion puts young people at a disadvantage in terms of learning and future life chances, so you will be helping the planet and supporting the education of the next generation.

The Every Child Online team will be at the library from 10am to 12.30pm, Saturday 21 February.
