Pregnant women in Thurrock are being urged to protect themselves and their babies this winter by getting the free flu vaccine.
The flu vaccine is recommended for all pregnant women, no matter what stage of pregnancy they are at. It helps protect both you and your baby from serious illness and is completely free on the NHS.
Getting vaccinated during pregnancy helps build your baby’s immunity in the womb, offering protection in their first few months after birth. The flu jab can safely be given at the same time as other recommended vaccines, such as the whooping cough (pertussis) or RSV vaccination.
Drop in for your vaccination at Basildon Hospital
If you’re pregnant, you can drop in without an appointment to the antenatal clinic at Basildon University Hospital (near the entrance) to get your flu, whooping cough, or RSV vaccine.
When: Mondays and Fridays, 9:15am–4:30pm
Where: Antenatal Clinic, near the main entrance, Basildon University Hospital
- No appointment needed – just pop along.
The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System’s community vaccination nursing team will be on hand to answer any questions about vaccines during pregnancy.
Other ways to get your flu vaccine
If you can’t attend the Basildon drop-in, you can also get your free NHS flu vaccine by:
- Contacting your GP surgery to book an appointment
- Booking online at a participating pharmacy or through the NHS App
- Finding a walk-in pharmacy that offers free NHS flu vaccinations – some pharmacies also vaccinate children aged 2 or 3 years
Stay protected this winter
Flu can be serious during pregnancy, but getting vaccinated is the best way to keep both you and your baby healthy. Don’t wait – pop into Basildon Hospital’s drop-in clinic or visit your local pharmacy today.
