Improving access and protecting wildlife at Langdon Hills

A popular route through Langdon Hills Country Park has been improved, thanks to a successful partnership between Thurrock Council’s Ranger Service and the Clean and Green Team.

The project restored sections of the horse ride and cycle route linking Hawksbury Bush and One Tree Hill, which had become increasingly difficult to use because of overgrown hedgerows and vegetation.

The project restored sections of the horse ride and cycle route linking Hawksbury Bush and One Tree Hill, which had become increasingly difficult to use because of overgrown hedgerows and vegetation.

The teams delivered a coordinated programme of hedge maintenance, combining specialist skills, equipment and resources to tackle priority areas that required urgent attention. The work not only reopened key sections of the route for horse riders, cyclists and walkers but also helped safeguard valuable wildlife habitats by ensuring future maintenance can be carried out without disturbing environmentally sensitive meadow areas.

Councillor Richard Bingley, Leader of Thurrock Council said: "This is a great example of Civic Pride in action. By bringing together the expertise of our Ranger Service and Clean and Green Team, we've been able to make a real difference to one of Thurrock's most valued green spaces. Residents and visitors can now enjoy easier access to this popular route, while important meadow habitats are better protected for the future.”

The collaborative work will help ensure Langdon Hills Country Park remains welcoming, accessible and well managed for future generations.
