Thurrock Council is proud celebrate Refugee Week, the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity, and resilience of refugees and those seeking sanctuary.

As a council and community, Thurrock has united to play an essential role in providing resettlement support to over 300 Ukrainians and Afghans under the following government schemes:

To celebrate Refugee Week from 17 June to 23 June 2024, we've organised a range of cultural activities and events across the borough. Find out what events are taking place near you, below.

Grays Library:

  • Free Dual Language Children’s Books – pick up a free dual language children's book donated by BookTrust from Monday 17 June to Wednesday 31 July
  • Children's Art Exhibition – see art created by children from Afghanistan and Ukraine, from Monday 17 June to Friday 21 June

Chadwell St Mary Community Church:

  • Café Connect with Project 108 – connect with the community on Friday 21 June from 10am to midday

Grays Town Park:

  • Afro Food Festival – enjoy the taste of Afro-Caribbean cuisine and learn more at the Resettlement information stand on Saturday 22 June
