Keeping popular footpath open and accessible

As part of Thurrock Council's annual maintenance programme, vegetation has been cut back along the public right of way running from Fen Lane, Orsett, northwards to Footpath 89 at Bulphan Fen.

Over time, seasonal growth led to branches, brambles and other vegetation encroaching onto the path, restricting access and making it more difficult for walkers to use the route safely and comfortably.

Council teams have now cleared the overgrown vegetation and restored the full width of the footpath, removing low-hanging branches and thorny growth to improve accessibility and visibility along the route.

Walkers can once again enjoy easier access to the countryside, with clearer sightlines around bends and towards gates, other path users and potential hazards.

Councillor Richard Bingley, Leader of Thurrock Council said: "Our public rights of way are an important part of Thurrock's green spaces, helping residents and visitors enjoy the countryside, stay active and connect with nature. This work supports our Civic Pride commitment to creating a green, beautiful and high-quality environment that our communities can be proud of."

The improvements form part of the Council's ongoing programme of maintaining public rights of way across the borough, ensuring they remain open, accessible and enjoyable for all users.
