We’re thrilled to share that 1st Ockendon Cub Pack has been honoured with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS), which is the highest national award a voluntary group can receive in the UK!
This incredible group of volunteers goes above and beyond to provide an engaging, inclusive, and life-changing experience for local young people. With 50 cubs attending regularly, they offer camping trips, practical skills, badge earning, and a space where every child is supported.
The group has an immeasurable impact on local families and the wider community, and has seven long-standing adult volunteers who collectively give over 3,000 hours a year to make this happen.
Cllr Sue Shinnick, Mayor of Thurrock, said: "I look forward to meeting the leaders and cubs of 1st Ockendon. Their commitment and passion shine through in everything they do. This award is so well deserved, they are a credit to Thurrock.”
Recipients of the KAVS are announced at the anniversary of His Majesty The King’s birthday on 14 November each year.
Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, Lord-Lieutenant of Essex, said: “The announcement of four winners of the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service across Essex, is a wonderful tribute to the outstanding work of the voluntary sector.”
