Thurrock Council's Cabinet yesterday (Wednesday 15 July) approved plans to issue a tender for the building of 11 new council homes on two sites of underused garages in South Ockendon.
Planning permissions had already been granted to redevelop the underutilised sites, one to the rear of 20 – 52 Anton Road and the other to the rear of 86 - 124 Anton Road, to provide the new affordable homes.
A construction company will now be selected via a competitive process to carry out the works.
This redevelopment project will see 17 garages demolished, before being transformed into 11 two and three bedroom council homes, as well as an adapted bungalow.
Similar projects at garage sites in Chadwell St Mary and Stanford Le Hope are already underway.
Work at the two sites in Anton Road is set to commence in the Spring of 2027 and conclude in Spring 2028.
