Cllr Lynn Worrall has been elected as new Leader of Thurrock Council and a new Cabinet appointed at this evening’s Annual Council.
Since May 2024 Cllr Worrall has been the council’s Deputy Leader, and succeeds Cllr John Kent in her new role as Leader.
Cllr Worrall said: “It is a real honour to be elected as Leader of Thurrock Council and a responsibility I take extremely seriously.
“Councillors are elected to represent the views of the borough’s residents and in my time as Leader I will make sure that their voices are heard and reflected in all that we do.
“I am committed to being open, honest and transparent and will work to ensure that all that we do is for the good and benefit of Thurrock’s residents.
“The strongest asset this borough has is our wonderful communities, my job is to make sure that those communities have a voice in all that we do and are given all that they need to thrive and grow right here in Thurrock.”
A new Cabinet was also appointed at Annual Council. The new Cabinet has nine members, including the Leader:

- Cllr John Kent - Sustainability, Arts, Culture and Heritage
- Cllr Mark Hooper - Health and Wellbeing
- Cllr Mark Hurrell - Social Housing
- Cllr Lynda Heath - Public Protection and Constitutional Affairs
