Residents invited to have their say on Thurrock’s new Animal Activity Licensing Policy

Thurrock Council launched a public consultation on its Draft Animal Activity Licensing Policy this week, with residents, licence holders, veterinary professionals, animal welfare organisations and anyone with an interest in animal welfare encouraged to take part.

The proposed policy brings together the Council’s approach to animal licensing, inspections, enforcement and decision-making in one document, with the aim of providing greater clarity, consistency and transparency.

It covers a range of activities, including animal boarding, breeding, pet sales, dangerous wild animals, zoos and primate licensing. It also sets out the standards expected of licence holders and the Council’s approach to promoting high standards of animal welfare across Thurrock.

Cllr Russell Cherry, Cabinet Member for Veterans, Enforcement and Environment, said: “Animal welfare is something that matters to many people across Thurrock and it is important that our approach to licensing is consistent and effective.

“This consultation gives residents, businesses, animal welfare organisations and professionals the opportunity to look at the proposed policy and tell us what they think.

“I encourage anyone with an interest in animal welfare or animal licensing to take a few minutes to read the draft and share their views. Public feedback will help ensure the final policy is practical and reflects the needs of Thurrock.”

The consultation is now open and responses will help inform the final policy before it is considered for adoption.
