More than 60 residents attended the latest Thurrock Cares Warm Up For Winter roadshow at Aveley Library & Hub yesterday (Wednesday 4 November), accessing advice, support and health services ahead of the winter months.
The event brought together Thurrock Council, NHS partners, voluntary sector organisations and micro-enterprises, offering residents a one-stop shop for practical help and information.
Visitors were able to speak directly with organisations about financial assistance, benefits, food support, energy advice, support for older people and carers, community activities and winter wellbeing. Residents also had access to a range of health and wellbeing services, including winter vaccinations and advice on staying active and connected throughout the colder months.
The Aveley event follows successful roadshows in Grays and West Thurrock.
The roadshows form part of the Thurrock Cares campaign, which helps residents access practical support, advice and local services throughout the year.
Residents can still attend the remaining Warm Up For Winter roadshows:
- Tuesday 10 November: The Springhouse, Corringham (1pm to 4pm)
- Friday 20 November: Tilbury Community Association (10am to 1pm)
Residents are encouraged to drop in and speak with organisations that can help with:
- Financial support and benefits
- Food and household essentials
- Energy and heating advice
- Support for older people and carers
- Community activities and volunteering opportunities
- Respiratory health and winter wellbeing
- Vaccination services
- Warm spaces and staying connected in the community
Councillor Richard Bingley, Leader of Thurrock Council, said: "It is fantastic that more than 60 residents came along to the Thurrock Cares roadshow in Aveley and took advantage of the wide range of support available.
"These events are designed to make it as easy as possible for residents to access help and advice in their local community. Whether people are looking for support with household finances, wanting to stay well this winter or simply find out what's available locally, there is something for everyone.
"I would encourage anyone who has not yet attended a roadshow to come along to one of the remaining events and speak to the organisations on hand."
