Thurrock International Film Festival 2025: A celebration of storytelling in Grays Town Park

6 October 2025

Thurrock residents are invited to experience a world-class celebration of cinema as the Thurrock International Film Festival 2025 takes place from 17 to 19 October 2025 at Grays Town Park Café (RM17 6PZ).

The festival will bring together inspiring films, community spirit and opportunities for creative exploration — right in the heart of Thurrock.

A festival championing bold and diverse voices

The Thurrock International Film Festival is both IMDb-qualifying and supported by BFI FAN, highlighting its national and international recognition. The programme is dedicated to fearless storytelling and underrepresented voices, featuring an exciting mix of:

  • short films
  • feature films
  • documentaries
  • animation
  • experimental works

Screenings take place in a relaxed “café cinema” environment, offering an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for film enthusiasts of all backgrounds.

The festival will culminate with an awards ceremony on 25 October 2025, celebrating outstanding talent and achievements from across the programme.

Accessible and community-focused

The festival is designed to be open to everyone. All community screenings are offered on a “pay what you can” basis, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to taking part.

Beyond the festival weekend, Film Thurrock delivers a range of year-round projects:

  • Screen Heritage – preserving and sharing Thurrock’s cultural history through film.
  • Young Film Network – providing hands-on opportunities for 18–25-year-olds to get involved in film production, volunteering and work experience.

Additional events

In the lead-up to the festival, a series of special heritage screenings and exhibitions will take place across the borough:

  • Screen Heritage presentations at Grays Library (16 September) and Purfleet Heritage & Military Centre (28 September).
  • Grays Caribbeans after Windrush, an oral history and exhibition project touring various venues from October to December 2025.

These events offer unique opportunities to connect with local stories and explore Thurrock’s rich cultural heritage.
