World Cup 2026: Enjoy the game, stay in control

With excitement building ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Thurrock residents are being encouraged to enjoy the tournament, celebrate safely and remember that support is available if needed.

Major sporting events are a chance to bring people together, whether that’s gathering with friends and family, cheering on your favourite team or enjoying the atmosphere in the community. While many people will be celebrating responsibly, some may find that alcohol or drug use begins to affect their wellbeing during busy social periods.

The Thurrock Drug and Alcohol Service is reminding residents that free, confidential support is available throughout the World Cup and beyond.

The service supports adults, young people and families across Thurrock, offering:

  • Advice and support around alcohol use
  • Information on drug use and harm reduction
  • One-to-one support
  • Recovery programmes
  • Support for family members and loved ones
  • Confidential assessments and referrals
  • Tailored support for young adults and adults

Whether you’re looking for information, support for yourself, or advice about someone you care about, the service’s friendly team is available to help.
