Temporary Prohibition or Restriction of Traffic
Footpath 146 - East Tilbury
1) The Borough Council of Thurrock, in exercise of their powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other powers, intends to make an Order the effect of which is to:
- Prohibit any pedestrians from travelling along Footpath 146 from a point approx 340m west of where it meets Bridleway 187 for a distance of approx 25m in a westerly direction.
2) The purpose of the Order is to enable a ramp to be built for access to the foreshore for testing ahead of the Lower Thames Crossing tunnelling works.
3) The alternative route for eastbound travel will be through a set of kissing gates approx 100m west of the closure and travel north on a footpath through a field to where it meets footpath 200, then travel east on footpath 200 to where it meets Princess Margaret Road, then travel south on Princess Margaret Road onto Bridleway 187, and vice versa for westbound travel.
4) The Order will come into force on the 15th September 2025 at 07:00hrs. Works are currently scheduled to take place daily between 08:00 and 18:00 on weekdays or during specific low tide times between 15th September 2025 and 10th October 2025, however the closure will remain in place 24 hours a day with security present. Exact dates however will always be specified on https://one.network/?tm=145040371 It only applies to those days and times when indicated on site by the presence of the appropriate traffic signs in accordance with The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.
5) It is expected that the works will be completed within the above times, however the Order will continue in force for a period not exceeding 6 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the sooner.
6) If the works are not completed within 6 months, the Order may be extended for a longer period with the approval of the Secretary of State.
