Fort Road and Cooper Shaw Road - West Tilbury
Temporary Prohibition or Restriction of Traffic
1) The Borough Council of Thurrock, in exercise of their powers under Section 14(1) of the
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other powers, intends to make an Order the effect
of which is to: -
- Prohibit any vehicle from travelling along Fort Road between its junctions with Brennan Road and Cooper Shaw Road.
- Prohibit any vehicle from travelling along Cooper Shaw Road between its junctions with Fort Road and Station Road.
- Temporarily revoke the 7.5tn weight restriction on Station Road.
2) The purpose of the Order is to enable Thurrock Council to carry out carriageway
resurfacing.
3) The alternative route for southbound vehicles is Church Road, Station Road, Princess
Margaret Road, East Tilbury Road, Buckingham Hill Road, Stanford Road, Orsett Cock
Interchange, Entry on slip Orsett Cock Interchange to A13 westbound, A13, exit slip to
A1089, Thurrock Park Way Roundabout, St Andrews Road, Ferry Road, New Port Approach,
and Fort Road and vice versa for northbound vehicles. Access will be maintained for
residents and businesses at all times.
4) The Order will come into force on the 28th September 2026 at 19:00hrs. Works are
currently scheduled to take place nightly between 28th September 2026 and 7th October
2026 between the hours of 19:00 and 05:00. Exact dates however will always be specified

when indicated on site by the presence of the appropriate traffic signs in accordance with
The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.
5) It is expected that the works will be completed within the above times, however the Order
will continue in force for a period not exceeding 18 months or until the works have been
completed, whichever is the sooner
6) If the works are not completed within 18 months, the Order may be extended for a longer
period with the approval of the Secretary of State.
