Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging
Thurrock Council has partnered with Connected Kerb, a national provider of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points, to roll out smart charging points in Thurrock
From December 2024, we will have 66 Charge Points in place across the borough.

We have used a lot of data and analysis to choose where best to install these Charge Points. This has included information on:
- Residential areas where properties have little or no off-street parking
- Areas that have a high volume of traffic
- Requests from Thurrock residents for on-street EV Charging options
- Areas deemed to high demand for charging facilities
What is smart charging?
With smart charging, it’s all about choice. You can plug in your vehicle and schedule charging sessions during off-peak times when demand is lower, tariffs are cheaper and renewable energy is aplenty.
It’s particularly handy when you’re parking for long periods of time and charging in double-quick time is not so important. For example, when you are parked on a street outside your home overnight or in a hotel car park. Just select a time by which you want the charge to be finished and you’ll be fully charged when you set off in the morning.
The Charging Points we are using in Thurrock
We know some charging points are bulky and take up a lot of space. We have reduced this as much as possible by using a system called Gecko, which is Connected Kerb’s lowest visual impact charge point.
The design of the units allows for single or double charging, as well as easy repairs and upgrades when needed.
Carbon footprint is also reduced due to exclusively UK-based design and manufacturing and using recycled materials where possible.
