British Sign Language (BSL) support

Content

Deaf customers can get British Sign Language (BSL) support through SignVideo interpreters.

BSL support at our Civic Offices

You can access the SignVideo service at our Civic Offices in the Customer Service area, next to our main reception.

The service is set-up to provide a remote interpreter who can give instant access to communication support. You can have a conversation with council staff via the remote interpreter without the delay you might expect while waiting for a face-to-face interpreter.

Our customer service staff can also help you by either:

  • connecting you to the service you need
  • contacting the person you'd like to speak with

BSL support online using your web browser

Deaf customers who have a computer with a webcam can get support online using the links below. When the service starts:

  • you will be connected with one of SignVideo's BSL interpreters
  • the interpreter will connect with the council service you need via a voice phone call

You can connect with Thurrock Council general enquiries, adult social care or children's services using the options below.

BSL support using a mobile app

As a deaf customer, you can also use a mobile device – such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop – to make a call with a BSL interpreter.

You can get the SignVideo app via the SignVideo Downloads web page, or direct from the app store for your device.
