Holiday activities and food

Supporting children at holiday times

Children in Thurrock can enjoy healthy meals and enriching activities throughout the holidays.

The 'holiday activities and food' programme provides opportunities that make sure children can:

  • be more active and enjoy time outdoors
  • have a tasty, healthy lunch
  • take part in activities that make their lives better
  • be safe and not feel socially isolated
  • learn more about eating well and staying healthy
  • get help with anything they are worried about

Individual opportunities are listed below. Funding has been provided by the government's Department for Education (DfE) as part of the national holiday activities and food programme.

All activities are free for children of school age who are eligible for free school meals.

Parents and carers of children who are not eligible for free school meals should ask about costs

Healthy food

If you would like to try making your own nutritious low-cost meals, you can download the easy recipes below, created especially by the team at Thurrock Catering.

Separate to the government-funded holiday activities and food programme, we have extended our food voucher scheme so eligible families can continue receiving weekly supermarket vouchers for both weeks of the Easter holidays. You should contact your child's school office if you would like more information about the food voucher scheme.
