Housing strategies

Everyone should have access to a safe, stable, secure and suitable home.

Through our Housing Strategy, 2022 to 2027, we will:

• provide a housing service that meets its targets and puts residents at the centre of all that we do
• minimise bureaucracy, increase flexibility and focus more on what matters to residents
• commit to effectively ending the need for any Thurrock resident to experience rough sleeping in our borough
• prioritise residents' safety in their homes and neighbourhoods, whether they live in a council-owned home or in the private sector
• make sure all residents can have their voices heard

The actions put forward in this strategy present opportunities for major estate regeneration, to:

• provide more genuinely affordable council-owned homes
• end out-of-borough placements entirely, unless for safeguarding reasons or through choice
• work with partners on providing the things that matter to residents in their different localities
