Public urged to avoid flooded roads

14 January 2021
Thurrock council is urging residents to avoid flooded roads and pathways after heavy rainfall and high-tides caused flooding in the Stanford-le-Hope and Bulphan areas today.
Leader of Thurrock Council, Cllr Rob Gledhill, said: "While no-one should be going out unless it is absolutely essential, I would urge those that have to travel to make sure that they avoid the areas affected by flooding as much as possible and under no circumstances drive or walk into standing water.

Residents and officers thanked following flooding

This morning, Sunday 5 July, a flood under the railway bridge on Wharf Road, Stanford-le-Hope was reported to Thurrock Council, resulting in the road being shut until approximately 5pm.
The flooding was a result of mechanical failure within the water pumps following a power cut during the previous afternoon. Due to the constant flow of water, which built-up and caused the flooding on the road, the pumps could not be accessed by specialist contractors to fix them until the road was cleared.
