Flat fire in Chadwell St Mary

Thurrock Council is aware of a fire in a 13th floor council flat in George Tilbury House, Chadwell St Mary.
The fire service was called at 9:20am and had extinguished the fire by 10:30am. It was contained to one flat and other properties on the same floor were evacuated by fire crews, as a precautionary measure. Two people have been affected by smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.

Council and fire service aim to boost fire safety

Residents of council-managed properties are being reminded to clear communal spaces of clutter, which can be a fire hazard.
Cllr Barry Johnson, Cabinet member for housing, said: "Keeping our residents safe is our priority at all times, and in the wake of the tragedy at Grenfell a number of legislative changes have been introduced. We have reviewed safety measures around managing communal areas and sought advice from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
