Ongoing support for struggling households

29 March 2023

Thurrock Council is continuing to help vulnerable households across the borough thanks to an additional £2.59million of UK Government funding for the Household Support Fund, which will be distributed throughout the 2023/24 financial year.

The funding will be used to provide essential support to households most in need, including:

  • £720,000 to provide free school meals in the 2-week Easter break and the 6-week school summer holiday
  • £1.87m to provide help for households in financial hardship through the Essential Living Fund, which includes help with utility bills

The Essential Living Fund is open to households that receive benefits or are living on a low income, applications are open to all and money from the fund can be used to pay for essentials including food, clothes, utility bills, furniture and white goods.
