Join the Space Chase this summer!

Children of all ages can take part in an out-of-this-world adventure as the 2019 Summer Reading Challenge returns to Thurrock this month.
From Saturday 13 July to Saturday 14 September, pre-schoolers, children and young adults can join in this year's challenge, Space Chase, at libraries in Aveley, Belhus, Blackshots, Chadwell, Corringham, East Tilbury, Grays, Stanford-le-Hope and Tilbury.

Have fun at Thurrock libraries and hubs this Easter

Keep the kids entertained during the Easter half-term holiday next month at Thurrock's libraries and hubs.
For those who enjoy arts and crafts, Grays library will run 2 events during the 2-week break, on Monday 8 April and Monday 15 April. The first session, called 'Make your own cardboard story puppet,' is suitable for ages 5 and over, while children of all ages can take part in 'Easter crafts'.
Both events run from 10:30am to midday and there is a suggested voluntary donation of 50p per child.

Fun Palace at Grays library

Science, art and magic will come together at Grays library on Saturday 6 October as the library becomes a fun palace with something exciting for kids of all ages.
The event starts at 11am and runs until 3pm, and will give youngsters an opportunity to:
have a go at coding with robotics
meet conjurer Paul Clancy, who'll be making balloon animals
explore forest arts and crafts in a special yurt set up especially for the event

Calling all whizz kids! Computers, robots and dinosaurs at libraries this summer

Thurrock libraries have a series of high-tech events which will help turn youngsters into robot controlling and computing whizz-kids.
Activities on offer include a session which will teach children aged between 11 and 17 years-old how to programme robots using the Scratch and Python coding languages. 4 sessions take place in August and September and cost just £5 each.
There are also classes that teach youngsters how to write computer codes and lessons where youngsters can learn more about computer coding through the massive hit game Minecraft.

Thurrock Libraries have an exciting volunteering opportunity for young people who can help introduce children to the joy of books as part of the Summer Reading Challenge.
Anyone aged between 13 and 18 years-old who is looking for a volunteering opportunity during the summer holidays can take part.
The national Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year in libraries across Thurrock. It is the ideal opportunity to have fun, gain new skills and get some fantastic experience to include on CVs.

Magical events arrive at Thurrock libraries this Easter

Youngsters will have a chance to walk with dinosaurs or take a trip beyond the stars thanks to a series fun and educational events taking place at Thurrock's libraries this Easter.
From Tuesday 3 April to Wednesday 11 April, two new workshops will arrive offering fun for all the family.
Digital Dinosaurs will bring the ancient beasts back to life along with spiders, sabre tooth tigers and the solar system in a thrilling augmented reality experience.

Alice In the Cuckoo's Nest

Professional theatre company Librarian Theatre is returning to Thurrock in February with 'Alice in the Cuckoo's Nest' which re-imagines Lewis Carroll's classic story in the setting of a modern day mental institution.
Although the show is family friendly, it is a far cry from the innocent adventure portrayed by Walt Disney's 1951 film version.
"We're not shying away from the darker sides of the subject matter," said Tom Cuthbertson, Librarian Theatre Artistic Director and actor.

Fun Palace at Thameside success

On Saturday 7 October, Grays library transformed into a 'Fun Palace' to celebrate national Fun Palace weekend.
Members of the local community took over Grays library to share their skills and passion for their hobbies and businesses. Visitors took part in playing chess and Space Battleships, as well as knitting, cross-stitching, turning newspapers into baskets, and even trying their forest skills in an outdoor Yurt on Orsett Road.

Spooky Stories comes to Thurrock Libraries

Popular professional storyteller John Kirk will be back in Thurrock libraries again during October half term with some spine-tingling spooky stories.
In the summer of 2016, John recreated Roald Dahl's 'The Twits' in a fun interactive show in local libraries.
