Fees and charges are as follows.

Birth certificates

You can order a certificate online.

Certificate fees up to 15 February 2019 are as follows.

Certificate Cost
Standard birth certificate from registrar who registered the birth. This cost applies only at the time the birth is recorded by the registrar £4 (£7 after registration)
Standard birth certificate from superintendent registrar 2 hour priority service: £35
24 hour next day service: £25
7 day standard service: £10
Short birth certificate from superintendent registrar 2 hour priority service: £35
24 hour next day service: £25
7 day standard service: £10
Postage and packaging Standard first class: £2
First class recorded: £3.50
Special delivery, guaranteed next working day: £8.50

Certificate fees from 16 February 2019 will be as follows.

Naming ceremonies

The following fees apply:

  • a £100 non-refundable deposit is required when booking a ceremony at any approved premise
  • a £46 non-refundable deposit is required when booking a ceremony at the register office
  • a £30 admin fee is payable if the date or time of any ceremony is changed for any reason

Changes to initial registration

The following fees apply from 1 November 2017:

  • £40 – change of forename added within 12 months of birth registration
  • £75 – consideration by the Registrar or Superintendent Registrar of a correction
  • £90 – consideration by the Registrar General of a correction

Fees are payable to the Registrar or Superintendent Registrar.
