Birth, marriage, civil partnership and death certificates

You can order new certificates and copies of certificates held by Thurrock Register Office.

Certificates include:

Basildon Hospital births

We do not hold any records for Basildon Hospital births – we cannot provide certificates for people born there.

For copies of birth certificates where the birth happened in Basildon Hospital, go to Essex Record Office: certificate copies.

Certificates you can order

You can order copies of certificates from 1837 to the present day for persons in Aveley, parts of Bulphan, Chadwell St Mary, Chafford Hundred, Corringham, Coryton, East Tilbury, Fobbing, Grays, Linford, Little Thurrock, Mucking, North Stifford, Orsett, Orsett Heath, Purfleet, South Ockendon, South Stifford, Stanford-le-Hope, Stifford Clays, Tilbury, West Thurrock and West Tilbury.

You can also order copies of birth and death certificates from 1 July 1948 to 30 September 1961 for persons in Canvey Island, Hadleigh, South Benfleet and Thundersley.

We only provide 'standard' certificates, which have all the information that most authorities need for proof of registration. We do not provide 'short' versions of certificates.

For registrations at other dates and places, contact the General Register Office.

How to order a certificate

You can currently search online for births, marriages and deaths that were registered between 1990 and 2012.

If you can't find the record you're looking for, or if you need a record from before 1990 or after 2012, you can use the 'Order a copy certificate' manual form to enter details yourself.

You can pay for your order using a credit or debit card – check our latest birth certificate charges, marriage and civil partnership certificate charges and death certificate charges.

Certificates can be provided within 5 working days, plus postal delivery time, or you can choose a 24-hour service. If you order before 2pm, the 24-hour service allows you to collect the certificate from Thurrock Register Office after the same time on the next working day. If you order after 2pm, you must add an extra day for the 24-hour service.

Contact Thurrock Register Office in person if you would like to use our 2-hour priority service.

Working days are Monday to Friday, except for UK bank holidays.
