Damp and mould

Mould

Mould spores are all around us. They become visible when they land on a surface and are left to grow and spread.

Mould will spread as long as there is moisture.

To take action against mould, you can

  • remove mould growth by wiping down walls and window frames with a fungicidal wash that has a Health and Safety Executive 'approval number' – always follow the manufacturer's instructions precisely
  • dry-clean mildewed clothes
  • shampoo carpets
  • redecorate after treatment, using a good quality fungicidal paint to help prevent mould recurring

Do not brush or vacuum mould as this can increase the risk of respiratory problems.
