1.    Please could you confirm the total number of accidents at work involving council employees and contractors that have been reported between September 2022 to September 2023. 

2.    What were the causes of these accidents?

3.    How much compensation was paid out between September 2022 and September 2023 as a result of employee accident at work claims irrespective of the date the claim was submitted?

Total number of accidents for council employees (including agency workers) and contractors – 105

Total number of accidents for council employees (excluding agency workers) and contractors – 79

  1. What were the causes of these accidents?

The main causes for these accidents include the following:

  • Physically assaulted
  • Slips, trips and falls
  • Injured by animal
  • Trapped by something falling/collapsing
  • Contact with machinery
  • Strain or injury when lifting/reaching
  • Fall from height
  • Heat exposure
  • Struck or injured by object/falling object
  • Strain or injury by pushing or pulling
  • Struck or injured by vehicle/machinery
  1. How much compensation was paid out between September 2022 and September 2023 as a result of employee accident at work claims irrespective of the date the claim was submitted?
