I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from Children’s Social care. Please may you provide me with the numbers of looked after children and care leavers with a disability.
If possible I would like you to provide this information using the attached EXCEL template
Time frame for the data: numbers relate to looked after children / care leavers you are currently supporting on a given date (i.e. date the data is extracted)
Below are the questions (also supplied in attached WORD document):
1. How many looked after children have a disability*
Answer options:
- TOTAL - Total number of looked after children
- YES - Number of looked after children with a disability
- NO - Number of looked after children who do not have a disability
- UNKNOWN - Number of looked after children where disability status unknown
2. Please provide the number of looked after children with different types of disability as recorded on your Children Social Care management information system
NB: Children in need census guidance** includes categories: mobility; hand function; personal care; incontinence; communication; learning; hearing; vision; behaviour; consciousness; diagnosed with autism or Asperger syndrome; other DDA.
Answer options:
- NONE – number of looked after children recorded as ‘none’
- MOB – number of looked after children recorded as ‘mobility’
- HAND – number of looked after children recorded as ‘hand function’
- PC – number of looked after children recorded as ‘personal care’
- INC – number of looked after children recorded as ‘incontinence’
- COMM – number of looked after children recorded as 'communication’
- LD - number of looked after children recorded as 'learning’
- HEAR - number of looked after children recorded as 'hearing’
- VIS – number of looked after children recorded as 'vision’
- BEH – number of looked after children recorded as 'behaviour’
- CON – number of looked after children recorded as 'consciousness’
- AUT – number of looked after children recorded as 'diagnosed as autism or Asperger syndrome’
DDA – number of looked after children recorded as ‘other DDA’
3. How many care leavers*** have a disability?
Answer options:
- TOTAL - Total number of care leavers
- YES - Number of care leavers with a disability
- NO - Number of care leavers who do not have a disability
- UNKNOWN - Number of care leavers where disability status unknown

- UNKNOWN - Number of looked after children where disability status unknown - 0
2. Please provide the number of looked after children with different types of disability as recorded on your Children Social Care management information system
NB: Children in need census guidance** includes categories: mobility; hand function; personal care; incontinence; communication; learning; hearing; vision; behaviour; consciousness; diagnosed with autism or Asperger syndrome; other DDA.
Please note: a child can have more than one disability type allocated to them, therefore the numbers against the disability types will not add up to the total number of children with a disability within that cohort
