Response:

1. If you have a schedule for clearing gullies on residential roads and if so the frequency with which this work is carried out.

We operate a schedule of programmed gully cleansing with cleansing frequencies varying owing to road type and other known influencing factors such as leaf litter, run off, silting and drainage system capacity. Cleansing frequencies range between 6 monthly and 48 monthly. We also undertake gully cleansing on a reactive basis where there is a need to address a specific reported or identified issue.

2. Is your maintenance work for clearing gullies carried by a contractor or your own staff?

Programmed and Reactive highway surface water gully cleansing is carried out by our own in-house staff. Occasionally work requiring higher volume / capacity cleansing equipment is issued to our Term Maintenance Contractor or specialist sub-contractors.

3. What type of equipment is used? For example, do you own a gully sucker, or do your contractors use a gully sucker?

We own and operate our own Medium Volume Combination HGV Gully tanker.

4. Have you used new technology for your gully clearing? If so, please give details. Specifically have you used In Touch Ltd Smart Water sensors https://www.intouch-ltd.com/smartwater/gully-systems or do you have plans to do so? If so, what, if any, reductions in cost and/or reductions in blockages have resulted?

We have not used ‘In Touch Ltd’ smart water sensors or other similar gully technology to date.
