Housing tower blocks

Request: 

1.         The number of high rise (above 18m) council housing tower blocks owned by your local authority

2.         The number of council housing blocks you own of any height subject to the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order (blocks of two or more premises with common parts)

3.         The number of individual flats contained in (1) and (2) (please provide separately)

4.         The number of blocks that have been fitted with sprinkler systems in answer to (1) and (2) (please provide separately) 

5.         The number of blocks which have been fitted with a fire alarm system capable of sending an alert to the entire building in (1) and (2) (please provide separately)

6.         The number of people with disabilities which would hinder their ability to escape who live in the buildings in answer to (1)

7.         The number of Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans developed for residents in the answer to (6)

8. If one of these questions takes the request over the threshold for officer time spent, please answer the remaining questions separately.

Response: 

1.  The number of high rise (above 18m) council housing tower blocks owned by your local authority: 15

2.  The number of council housing blocks you own of any height subject to the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order (blocks of two or more premises with common parts) –

Total Blocks of flats: 718

  • General needs = 475 blocks
  • Sheltered = 243 blocks

3.  The number of individual flats contained in (1) and (2) (please provide separately)

  • Number of flats in above 18m building (1) = 981 properties
  • Number of flats in below 18m building (2) =  4366 (approx.) properties

4.  The number of blocks that have been fitted with sprinkler systems in answer to (1) and (2) (please provide separately)  2

  • Number of blocks above 18m building (1) with sprinkler system- All HRBs have sprinkler system in bin room only = 15
  • Number of blocks below 18m building (2) with sprinkler system – 2

5.   The number of blocks which have been fitted with a fire alarm system capable of sending an alert to the entire building in (1) and (2) (please provide separately) N/A

6.   The number of people with disabilities which would hinder their ability to escape who live in the buildings in answer to (1)

There is 135 households in high rise properties where at least one household member has a sensory or physical disability which may mean that they are unable to self-evacuate 

7.         The number of Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans developed for residents in the answer to (6)

68 PEEPs have been completed for residents in high rise blocks which said yes to having a PEEP completed because they felt they would have difficulty self-evacuating

If you are dissatisfied with the way in which the council have managed your FOI request you can pursue an Internal Review by contacting us using the above email address.
