Please could you provide the following information regarding litter & enforcement in your

council area:

Littering Fine Value:

1. Do you issue fines for littering? YES/NO

2. If so, at what level do you levy fines?

3. The Government said in March 2023 that they are increasing the upper limit on fines for littering to £500.

a. Will you be levying fines at this level?

b. If not, at what level will you levy fines for littering?

Enforcement & Statistics:

4. Do you use an in-house team or private enforcement company to issue fines for littering?

5. How many fines (FPNs) for littering were issued in your council area in 2021/2022?

6. How many fines (FPNs) for car parking were issued in your council area in 2021/2022?

Litter Bins:

7. How many litter bins do you have in your council area now?

8. How many litter bins did you have 10 years ago?

9. Have you removed any litter bins in the past 10 years, and if so, how many?

Litter Clearance Costs:

10. What was your annual spend on litter clearance 2021/2022 and how does this compare to 2011/2012?

Littering Fine Value:

2. If so, at what level do you levy fines? Fine set at £150

3. The Government said in March 2023 that they are increasing the upper limit on fines for littering to £500.

a. Will you be levying fines at this level? Not yet decided by Cabinet

b. If not, at what level will you levy fines for littering? Not yet decided by Cabinet

Enforcement & Statistics:

4. Do you use an in-house team or private enforcement company to issue fines for littering? Both

5. How many fines (FPNs) for littering were issued in your council area in 2021/2022? Total 3599

6. How many fines (FPNs) for car parking were issued in your council area in 2021/2022? Thurrock Council do not issue FPNs for car parking offences.

Litter Bins:

7. How many litter bins do you have in your council area now? 580

8. How many litter bins did you have 10 years ago? Information not held

9. Have you removed any litter bins in the past 10 years, and if so, how many? There has been an increase in the number of litterbins

Litter Clearance Costs:

10. What was your annual spend on litter clearance 2021/2022 and how does this compare to 2011/2012? We do not have this information, the litter clearance cost is in with other street cleaning functions and not broken down.
