Publication date:
Wednesday 22 November 2023
Request:

- Number of manhole / drain covers stolen in Jan-Dec for 2021, 2022, and 2023 (to the end of July). Please break this down by year.

If you do not record this information, please provide the number of manhole / drain covers replaced or reported missing in Jan-Dec for 2021, 2022, and 2023 (to the end of July). Please break this down by year.

Response:

In issuing our response the council have applied S12 of the Freedom of Information Act.

This means that the council does not have to comply with your request if the cost of doing so exceeds the ‘appropriate limit’, which for local authorities is 18 hours.  This applies to the time taken spent locating and collating the requested information.

The Council do not formally record this information.  We report them when stolen and arrange repairs but to ascertain a number we would need to review several thousand works tickets and enquires. Even then it is questionable if the level detail is there to enable use to definitely say if it relates to stolen gullies.
